About Me

I grew up surrounded by books on complementary therapies, aromatherapy oils and medical texts, so I suppose my future was always beckoning. I moved to Sheffield in 1995 and after completing my Psychology degree I spent time travelling the world. During my travels it became clear that the things that interest me most are people, their ways of healing, thriving and being happy.

.. to bring you the most suitable, well tailored treatment possible ..

I took my first massage course in 2003 which gave me a practitioner qualification and a thirst for more. I have studied both in the UK and abroad, most notably at the Wat Po temple school in Bangkok and with John F Barnes in Arizona and Florida, USA. My demands for a higher level of knowledge led me to study Sports Massage in 2007. This expanded my knowledge and gave me access to working with elite professional sports teams such as Nottinghamshire County Cricket first team, Newcastle Eagles RFU first team and Sheffield United Football Academy.

Whilst studying for my Sports Massage diploma, I signed myself up for a course in Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release with the incredible Art Riggs. I thought it sounded like a good partner for the grunty body work I was already doing. The course however turned out to be a turning point.

It was a revelation no less.

Instead of elbows and pain, I learnt how to use stealth, and how to read the hidden messages held within a body. I was instantly hooked to this remarkable way of working and its transformative effects. It resonated deeply in me and still does now. The connective tissue system of the body, the fascia, is remarkable and learning how to free up restrictions and help my clients to inhabit their body's more fully is one of the greatest privileges I have experienced.

Since 2007 I have made a commitment to working with the fascia for the duration of my professional life. I am constantly astounded by the body's ability to play an integral part in its own healing. Everybody's body wants to heal and all it needs is someone to really listen and work with it.

Everybody's body wants to heal and all it needs is someone to really listen and work with it.

Whilst working with Nottinghamshire County Cricket, the head Physio used to rave about a muscle activation system called Be Activated. Taught by Douglas Heel, who is based in South Africa it sounded ridiculously intriguing. I eventually managed to book myself on to his course in the UK. This simple system based on neuromuscular points produces absolutely incredible results, and yet it's so playful. I love the way you can use it to reconnect and synchronise, to drop out dated compensation patterns of movement and truly energise yourself. I find it to be the perfect partner for myofascial release. Release and Resynchronise. Resynchronise and Release.

.. ask you to be a participant in your healing ..

I so believe in the power of what I do I use it on myself and my family, all the time. Life is hard on the body isn't it? We tense up under emotional stress and times of strain, and sometimes that can be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I know this has been the case for me. I know that the nerve entrapment I had in my back that sent my leg numb from the knee down was as much related to the stress of a long term relationship break down and the nightmare of my mum being hospitalised, as it was due to working too hard and not letting myself rest. Luckily for me, I had care from a fantastic and fascially aware Physio, and I undertook self treatment and did a lot of exercises to get myself right again.

That sounds simple doesn't it? But it took time, and hard work. I was in a lot of pain, still trying to run my life and go to work like a normal person. That experience left me feeling utterly despondent at times, and I totally understand that battle of trying to stop pain from ruining your life. This is a huge reason why I'm so passionate about what I do, why I will cheerlead you even when you feel like crap. Because even though I'm not you and even though I can't feel as you feel, I've been there in my own way and I am eternally grateful for the brutal lesson in empathy that it became. it's made me a better therapist.

But don't get me wrong, this isn't just body work for the bad times. Even now, I use a foam roller and a fascia ball and try to make time to stretch and nurture my body. I aim to work out the creaks and creases before things go awry and most times I do but sometimes I don't. And yes, it can be hard to find the time, but it is so worth it when I do.

I do it because it works for me. It can work for you too.

If you'd like to take a moment to give me a call or send me an email, I'd like to see if I can help you too.

With love and dedication,

Carrie has an innate ability and passion to give the best massages ever! I have been going for massages for many years now and am so delighted to have found Carrie. She really knows her stuff, always adapts her massage to your needs and you feel that she genuinely enjoys taking care of people through massage. I have already recommended her to all my friends and family and hope to benefit from her therapeutic hands for years to come!

"Carrie is an exceptional healer.
I first booked a treatment with Carrie about two years ago and quickly realised that she is so much more than a conventional massage therapist. She works in a deeply connected and intuitive way, listens closely to whatever I am saying about my body and then follows energetic pathways to find the issues which are ready to be resolved.

"Carrie was very highly recommended to me and more than lived up to my expectations. I came when I was experiencing recurrent problems with my neck, shoulder and hips. I particularly appreciate the way she both listens to both the symptoms I present but also the solutions that my body needs. Her treatment is at times strong and at others subtle but always effective. I always look forward to appointments with her because I know how good it will make me feel in both body and mind."

Having played hockey for over 25 years I’m prone to the odd ache and pain and occasional long term injury. Carrie has great skill and knowledge and was really committed to my goal of playing for England Masters in the over 40s world cup in Hong Kong.
I’m not sure I could have done it without her!
Carrie’s excellence and optimism kept me fit, able to train hard and be here now! Thank you.

"Time is elastic in Carrie's treatment room, it can fly past or expand depending on what is happening and I emerge from a treatment feeling renewed and refreshed at a cellular level. Working with Carrie, the fabric of my being has been deeply touched and released physically, emptionally and spiritually. I recommend her work wholeheartedly."
